Child Visitation Disputes
Child visitation disputes may arise during or after a divorce. They can happen for any number of reasons, including scheduling conflicts, parenting style conflicts and transportation issues. In some cases, a parent may believe that a former spouse is dangerous or unfit — try to use that allegation as a bargaining chip.
In cases involving serious threats to a child's safety, including physical abuse, chemical dependency and sexual abuse, our firm can seek an order of the court prohibiting visitation or limiting visitation to supervised parenting time.
However, most child visitation disputes do not involve danger to a child. The most common examples of child visitation disputes include:
- Denial of visitation
- Inadequate visitation
- Pick up and drop off disputes
- Transportation responsibilities
- Scheduling conflicts
In most cases involving a child visitation dispute, going to court is not the best answer. In many cases, parents can reach a mutual agreement through communication. An attorney can often provide a necessary buffer when parents have difficulty communicating.
At our law office, we encourage clients to seek cooperative solutions that foster family unity and the best interests of the children. However, we understand that it takes two reasonable people to reach a reasonable agreement. If your former spouse is unwilling to be reasonable, we will not hesitate to argue your case before a judge and seek the best possible results on your behalf.
